Calder Way Project Update April 23, 2026
/Dear property owners, business managers, and other stakeholders:
The Borough of State College is writing to provide you with the latest updates regarding Phase 2 of the Calder Way Improvement Project.
This past week the contractor, TerraWorks, worked on several waterline connections in the intersection of West Calder Way and South Burrowes Street. The contractor also began the removal of the old water main from Miller Alley to South Burrowes, as well as the installation of conduit and a stormwater structure.
No work will be done on site, Friday, April 24th due to Blue-White Weekend. Work will resume on Monday, April 27th.
Next week, South Burrowes Street to Cresson Alley will be closed so that work can begin on sanitary sewer mains in this area. A bypass pumping system will need to be setup in the area from South Burrowes Street to Cresson Alley resulting in a restriction along South Burrowes Street while bypass pumping is taking place. Miller Alley to South Burrowes Street will remain closed and the contractor plans to begin placing asphalt along this section next week, weather permitting.
The contractor is asking that South Fraser Street to Miller Alley be used for deliveries only.
Parking for the James M. Elliot building will be impacted; validations have been sent to Penn State with instructions on how to use the validations as well as where to park during this time.
The Borough wants to emphasize that primary communications will be sent via email through the Calder Way Communications list. Weekly updates will be provided on Thursday afternoons, and there will be times you will receive more than one update per week as conditions change.
Please remember that projects of this nature are fluid and often change, and they can be impacted by inclement weather. You will be updated in a timely manner about these changes as they are received.
