Calder Way Project Updated March 26, 2026

Dear property owners, business managers, and other stakeholders:

The Borough of State College is writing to provide you with the latest updates regarding Phase 2of the Calder Way Improvement Project.

This past week, the contractor (Terra Works) completed water line installation from South Fraser Street to South Burrowes Street. With the installation of the new water lines, samples of the water have been taken to the State College Borough Water Authority for bacteria testing. Two samples must come back clean before services can be transferred. The transfer process began this week.

The contractor has pre-excavated holes, and on Monday, the service transfer from old utilities to the new lines will begin. Any businesses with anticipated service interruptions will be notified by the contractor and the water authority.

Refuse containers will return to the rear of 220 West College Avenue, as the contractor completed the installation of the second storm inlet structure at the intersection of Miller Alley. Borough refuse will empty the cans, return them to the previous location and clean up any mess that was made.

Next week, concrete restoration will begin for parts of the project area, water services connections will be made, and the installation of electric conduit will begin.

Calder Way from South Fraser Street to Burrowes Street remains closed to vehicular traffic. The loading dock at the Fraser Centre also remains closed. For delivery purposes, shipments can still be made via Beaver Avenue, South Fraser Street, or Miller Alley. However, drivers will need to use New Alley to exit towards Burrowes Street, if they unload on Miller Alley.

The Borough emphasizes that primary communications will be sent via email through the Calder Way Communications list. Weekly updates will be provided on Thursday afternoons, and there will be times you will receive more than one update per week as conditions change.

Please remember that projects of this nature are fluid and often change, and they can be impacted by inclement weather. You will be updated in a timely manner about these changes as they are received.
